Yeah it does sound like a honeypot.
- jimt1234 3y agoI was thinking 'honeypot', too. It makes me think of scantily-clad, female undercover cops, walking the streets, looking to arrest johns for solicitation. Walking the streets, looking and talking sexy isn't illegal. But soliciting someone for sex is. So, not a lawyer, but I'm guessing that talking about online crime and even putting "hacked accounts" up for sale isn't illegal, but knowingly trying to purchase is.
- iamthirsty 3y ago> even putting "hacked accounts" up for sale isn't illegal IANAL, but isn't it kind of a weird Catch-22, where if weren't illegal, it could be prosecuted as some sort of fraud?
- jimt1234 3y agoThat sounds like a someone calling the cops because the meth they bought was fake, which I've heard actually happens. LOL
- iamthirsty 3y agoKinda, not really. PII data sales are legal, but I'd imagine putting fake info and selling it may be on that fuzzy line.
