Teaching how to debug is craft. Teaching how debuggers work can be science (human computer interaction, abstraction, state machines...). Teaching craft is vocational training. Teaching science is university-level stuff. When I hire developers fresh from univeristy, I hope they have a solid foundation in how things work. I want them to know the science. I'll train them on craft.
