So basically there is a difference between a DB and an FS
- orand 3y agoIn theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
- edgyquant 3y agoIn practice a file system is not at all like a traditional database as it lacks querying of the data itself
- randomdata 3y agoNo. The takeaway is basically that there is no reason for Windows to use a relational database for storing information about files when a hierarchal database does it better for the vast majority of use cases its users encounter. It is, perhaps, possible another product with a different set of users with different needs could still find value in a relational filesystem, but Microsoft was unable to find that fit.
