Chromes new Incognito warning admits Google collects your data in "private" mode
- jqpabc123 3y agoFor all practical purposes "Google" is synonymous with "privacy invasion".
- evilDagmar 3y agoThis is shameful fear-mongering. It's not even any kind of "secret" that websites you visit will know you were there. It's literally the first bullet point in the list. Will Google now also be expected to mention that Incognito mode also can't do anything about Amazon or Facebook tracking you, or any of the dozens of other marketing companies that aggregate and collate IP address information to create profiles of people as they wander from website to website? Either you're using a VPN and a TOR browser or you will be tracked by marketing people who simply do not care how private you want to be. It's their literal 9-to-5 job to breach your "privacy". I really expected ArsTechnica to know better than to spin this nonsense.
- heyoni 3y agoI made this exact argument on lemmy and wondered if I was totally missing something or if the article was in fact a nothing burger.
- deafpolygon 3y agoIn other news, water is wet. Back to you.
- extraduder_ire 3y agoAnyone have a screenshot of what the new warning looks like? The comments on the article didn't help.
- shaftway 3y agoThe article links to their source, which has a before and after screenshot: https://mspoweruser.com/google-updates-chrome-incognito-disclaimer-amid-5-billion-lawsuit-settlement/ https://mspoweruser.com/google-updates-chrome-incognito-disc...
