This is certainly the first commentary on the subject that made me _feel_ anything, so hats off to the author. The generative AI that is changing the world today was built off the work of three groups - software developers, Reddit comment writers, and digital artists. The Reddit comment writers released their rights long ago and do not care. We are left with software developers and digital artists. In general, the software developers were richly paid, the digital artists were not. The software developers released their work open to modification; the artists did not. Perhaps most importantly, software developers created the generative AIs, so in a way it is a creation of our own; cannibalizing your own profession is a much different feeling than having yours devoured by another alien group. If Washington must burn, let it be the British and not the Martians. How might we have reacted if what has been done was not by our own hand?
