The Midwest is a continental climate. It will and does have heat waves.

British Columbia was thought to be the safest place on the planet from climate change but the heat waves a few years ago, and it's steadily declining snow pack put that idea very much in question. If we carry on business as usual, millions of people will be looking for the safest port in the storm, and the great lakes region is one of 3 regions in the US that I think will have a large influx of climate migrants, especially by 2100.
