Ask HN: Pilots and GA geek: Rate your risk tolerance in life and aviation (0-10)
E.g.:
Life 8/10
Aviation 3/10
It seems to me what has happened in the past week has been very very much exagerated and unwarrented.
Dying sucks, from all causes. Dying from aviation doesn't suck more, nor does it need special consideration just because you fall from the sky during your last moments.
If anything planes, helicopters, gliders, deltamotors etc. are great vehicles to fill our lives with joy and experiences before the eternal doom, they should get equal treatment compared to all other vehicles, not this paranoia.
Ever since the turn of the century the paranoia is getting worse year after year. It must stop. Asking to the whole industry to adhere to a standard which is not asked of any other industry, being perfect years with no casualties from commercial aviation ; unwarrented and unnecessary, if anything they are costing us precious lives somewhere else, hidden away from the media attention.
- PaulHoule 3y ago0 is you like risk or is 10 that you like risk?
- JumpinJack_Cash 3y ago0/10 = Zero tolerance for risk in any circumstances Eg: Wearing a helmet while riding a bike in your backyard garden or even worse while walking your maltese dog in your backyard garden (they also wear a helmet, and a muzzle)
- stephenr 3y agoI don't think riding a bike in a yard is zero. Zero should be "wears a helmet, knee pads, groin cup and a seatbelt to sit on the couch", or "never drinks anything but room temperature filtered water".
