I've wondered if autonomous driving in general could be human-assisted. This application seems appropriate because the low speeds (capped at 6 MPH) means that latency isn't too much of an issue. But I'm not quite sure I understand how it would be used. Would I drive to Costco, get out at the entrance, and then my car would go park itself? And would it then drive back and pick me up? How would other drivers or pedestrians feel about this? It seems like there would need to be some way for the vehicle to indicate to the pedestrians/drivers that it sees them and will yield, since there is no driver present to do this. This isn't a problem that is unique to this platform, but it would be unique that these vehicles wouldn't be badged as Waymos or whatever, or outfitted with LIDAR or other conspicuous sensors.
