Japan's coastline moved over 800 feet after the devastating Jan 1. earthquake
- sparky_z 3y agoTo clarify, it's not that a particular point of coastal land moved 800 ft away from where it had been previously. It's that some of the land was uplifted past sea level--essentially it "rose up out of the water"--effectively moving the location of the coastline.
- ahazred8ta 3y agoFor comparison, land surface movement near the 2004 tsunami was less than 1 meter.
- alboaie 3y agoNow, Japan has expanded its territory. This is a common method for increasing land area, correct?
- tomalbrc 3y agoCoastline will be back to normal due to global warming soonish, very cool
- flykespice 3y agoWonders of East Asia soft-power. If only the West had learned their way.
