Venus is an underrated planet, as a target for search of life outside Earth and also as a human colonization target. The planet is thought wrong, as a hellish desert planet. IMHO it's better to think of it as an ocean planet. But the ocean in question is made of supercritical CO2. The "hellish desert" is actually the bottom of this ocean. About 50km above the bottom of this ocean, we have the environment most similar to Earth surface in the whole solar system, in terms of temperature and pressure. To judge Venus by its solid surface is like dismissing Earth as an hostile environment because most of its surface is completely dark and under hundreds of atmospheric pressures due to all the water above.
