Why would the "No farmer no future" sign be written in English?
I'd think this is a purely internal German matter.

- Ralfp 3y agoBecause people protesting are aware the protest will also be reported and discussed abroad.
- black_puppydog 3y agoWasn't there but I'd guess it's also a nod to "Fridays for Future" which is pretty big in Germany as well.
- newsclues 3y agoWhat language are we discussing this topic with?
- AnimalMuppet 3y agoUs who have zero influence on German government policy? Why does it matter what language we discuss it in? What matters is persuading the people that can influence German government policy, and one does not influence them in English.
- fh973 3y agoIt's an alliteration that's understood by most Germans.
- d_tr 3y agoThis particular protest might be an internal German matter, but distribution of wealth is not. The message should reach as broad an audience as possible.
- raphman 3y agoMy guess: it refers to the 'Fridays for Future' movement. More or less arguing that caring about the climate does not matter if the farmers go bankrupt.
- itsthecourier 3y agoFarmers go bankrupt because organized and technified farming displace them. I have seen all along in-develoopment countries, farmers trying to farm manually as they ancestors did, getting outmatched by Jhon Deere and complaining about the system, instead of modernizing
- redeeman 3y agountil one realizes the same agendas at play in germany is at play in all of the western world (and probably more)
- pinkgolem 3y agoFridays for future is a pretty massive protest wave in europe, this is simply a play on that.
- mmarq 3y agoBecause it is a non-argument and by making it in a foreign language you sound smarter. Imagine if agriculture was really a strategic sector in Germany, they would be back in the pre-industrial era.
