- gjm11 3y agoThis is better than most "periodic tables" in that the periodicity in it actually represents something real: there actually are (conveniently!) 18 infinite families of finite simple groups (corresponding to the 18 columns in a standard periodic table), some of which are related to one another in ways that somewhat justify putting them next to one another in a table like this; one family (the cyclic groups of prime order) really are different from all the others, to an extent comparable to how different the noble gases are from the other elements; etc.
