There was ina interesting article about why there are so many cheap and abandoned homes in japan and thats laergely due to the superstition absout buying a home that someone has died in... I cant recall where i read it but is was talking about the sheer number available - but there were a bunch of roadblocks to purchasing them...
Having a few small places in Rural, but small nice villages as AirBnBs would be really cool -- what would be even cooler, would be to own a "circuit" of little places such that you dont airbnb a single place - you have atour of japan trip "2 nights here, 1 night here, 4 nights here" for a fill week in different parts of japan. ideally get them as FAR apart as you can while being as CLOSE in time by Bullet train.
EDIT: I found an article:
https://tokyoportfolio.com/jiko-bukken-real-estate/ https://tokyoportfolio.com/jiko-bukken-real-estate/
"So what is a Jiko Bukken? According to the guidelines, a Jiko Bukken is a property where “death other than natural or accidental death” or a “death requiring special cleaning” occurred.
This includes properties where suicides or murders have occurred, as well as properties where special cleaning was required, even in natural or accidental deaths."
