I Built a Great Team Culture Using First Principles (No Gimmicks)
- codingdave 3y ago> culture = team capabilities + team aspirations. wat? no. That article describes one very specific culture defined by one person, and one that is forced onto a team via top-down leadership, not one that develops naturally. Sure, if that specific culture is the one desired by that leader, it is a culture. But culture is not that formula. Culture is the collection of actions, thoughts, and behaviors shared by a group. If this author believe they have found a culture that works, fine - I happen to think this article describes a toxic autocratic environment, but that disagreement is kind of the point -- there are different cultures that appeal to different people. It is not a one-size-fits-all thing.
- atomicnature 3y agoIt is a definition used within org behavioral research in general (accepted). Culture = What Is (problem solving capabilities) + What the group desires Also, nothing autocratic about it, since the group is self-selected. Each group/biz has to define some central themes to function properly. (I'm the author)
