Reading Dune was the first time I read the word 'jihad'. I read that that Villeneuve's film omits the word entirely. On that basis I will not watch the film. The word is such a strong one, it has resonance and implies history and culture and power and fury and an unstoppable force. It was a huge part of the original culture of the book, and for me was a window into religion and cultures outside of those I'd previously known. Apparently using the word 'jihad' is verboten for some reason, and it's not even obscurity.
