I promise you the person you're replying to can't provide a single number or statistic off the top of their head to back up their position. It seems like such viewpoints are mostly mind-virus based; they simply saw lots of other people on HN/Reddit/Twitter say the same thing so it's now become "true" in their mind, and now they've become another cog in the machine blindly repeating the same thing, influencing other people, and spreading the virus onwards.
