Maybe, but if the perception is that they're going to get the stick no matter what they do, I'm not sure that creates much pressure or incentive to do the actually do the right thing. Either way, I don't think it's a net positive for us to choose to be less correctly informed about an issue or encourage the same in others, even if it's in pursuit of an otherwise worthwhile goal.
