I’m a little sceptical of AGI next year. Even if pushed to its limit it’s just 2 years. I suspect some sort of shenanigans. Like, rebranding multi-modal AI to general AI. I guess, one gets to invent a new term if your model can, say, process text, sound, and video, let’s add spatial manipulation, too, just to differentiate from current multi-modal models. Or G might stand for somthing else than “general”. Another aspect is that Altman doesn’t say any specific dates, even years. Two big step ups in two years seem like a little too fast.
