ieee has lost any semblance of trustworthiness.
- jbxffretuxa 3y agoMy first encounter with IEEE was when I started in an "Engineering" college in India, and saw professors writing dubious "research papers" on IEEE venues (IEEE eXplore ?) for stuff any worthy software engineer would come up with in 20 minutes. These shitty professors also had some sorts of "Memberships" in IEEE, despite not knowing shit about anything in CS. At that point I thought IEEE was a mostly money-grabbing organization. This was more than half a decade ago.
- JPLeRouzic 3y ago> "Memberships" in IEEE If it has not changed recently, memberships in IEEE are just a matter of paying the fee. There is also the issue of authors having to transfer copyright to IEEE. Yet you have to distinguish between IEEE conferences and IEEE standard bodies. I was briefly involved in the latter and I met great people.

- verve_rat 3y agoSure, but there is still a point to be made that IEEE think that, while this is not their opinion, it is worth reading. You might publish contrary opinions to spur debate, but you don't publish things you think are total garbage. The IEEE thinks this is worth reading.
- qwery 3y agoYeah, I saw that too. Got a brief chuckle out of me. I couldn't help myself asking why the fuck is it on your website, then?
