Why there's a highway sign in kilometers on the Bay Area's Interstate 580
- Stratoscope 3y agoThis is a more interesting article than I expected from the title. It goes into the history of how the US ended up on the imperial system instead of metric, including pirates in the Caribbean.
- yostrovs 3y agoIt's not really the imperial system. A beer pint in America and Britain are different, for example. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_and_US_customary_measurement_systems https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_and_US_customary_me...

- chiph 3y agoI had just started driving when the mixed mile/kilometer signs started going up in my state. For a short while (very short..), gasoline was even sold in liters. I haven't had the opportunity to drive it yet, but Interstate 19 in Arizona is the only highway in America that is marked in kilometers. https://azdot.gov/blog-article/kilometers-arizona-you-bet https://azdot.gov/blog-article/kilometers-arizona-you-bet
