Glad more research is ongoing related to this. ME/CFS research is getting new life because of all the long COVID patients.
I was lucky enough to not have brain fog or PEM (post exertional malaise) after I contracted the illness pre-vaccine (late 2020) but I had all manner of other weird things happen to my body. Massive chest pain, cardio issues (echo came up fine though) and breathing problems. Very strange inflammatory behavior where eating carbs like pizza would trigger some wild autoimmune responses, especially in the first few weeks after the illness. I’d be laying in bed literally gasping for breath for no explainable reason.
Eventually I got better but it took about 6 months and I still have a minor chest pain whenever I take a deep breath that may never go away. Might be related to some vagus nerve damage. I also had some very strange circulatory issues like my feet literally bruising when I wore shoes that were a bit too tight and exhibiting Reynauds like symptoms in my toes and fingers when it got cold, when I had never before had Reynauds. All that eventually went away too.
It was quite disheartening to go to the doctor at the time and hear the answer “yeah we have a lot of people coming and reporting your constellation of symptoms but since you look good on the battery of tests we normally use we have no treatment for you”.
