IMO this is nobody's business, especially given the "quiet" and "intimate" nature of this. The tech industry should strive for better standards to what constitutes as news.
- chiefalchemist 3y agoCorrect. This isn't news. Yes, it was an event. Yes, it happened. But that does not make it news in the text book definition sense. It's new. It's hardly relevant, at least compared to a slew of other more pressing issues. Sure, tech media should aim higher. But all media should. The mainstream media keeps passing off flacid non-news as journalism and no one notices or pushes back. While rare at this point, legit journalists have generally been silent while their "peers" have pushed the bar lower and lower. Anyone publishing anything has somehow become synonymous with journalism. That's not how it works, or should work. It's ironic how a wonky Fourth Estate keeps shouting "...threat to democracy..." and yet can't manage to look in the mirror and see itself in that role. /rant https://www.openculture.com/2020/01/jim-lehrers-16-rules-for-being-a-journalist-with-integrity.html https://www.openculture.com/2020/01/jim-lehrers-16-rules-for... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Estate https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Estate
