That’s been my policy for a few years - if HR drop a meeting in my calendar, no matter what it’s for, ignore it until I’ve spoken to my direct manager. Most of the time it’s been harmless, but there have been a couple of instances early in my career where I really should have had a legal representative before agreeing to anything.
