Why would the Democrats in Congress do that?
- jfengel 3y agoThis was mostly on partisan lines. It took a few Democrats to pass the Senate, the usual suspects with local interests willing to throw the party over for reelection. Especially since it's going to get vetoed and not overridden. It would definitely be better for Democrats if they could hold party discipline the way Republicans do, but they see themselves as the centrist party with a diversity of views rather than unity.
