  why are these idiots in charge opposed to EV? AI is already finding alternatives to cobalt and lithium mining so that won't be a thing for much longer.

    It's an election year. Anything to make the President look bad. Of course it's always an election year, here in the permanent election cycle. This is nominally about American manufacturing, but there is not a single person on Capitol Hill who can actually say that with a straight face. Nobody on either side of the aisle gave an instant's though to transportation, manufacturing, or the climate. It's entirely about winning the next election so that... so that they can continue to not care about any of those things. I suppose we could sit down here and discuss the merits of American made chargers and the coming changes in infrastructure. But I don't think anyone has any real facts about it, or that anyone would care if they did.

        This was mostly on partisan lines. It took a few Democrats to pass the Senate, the usual suspects with local interests willing to throw the party over for reelection. Especially since it's going to get vetoed and not overridden. It would definitely be better for Democrats if they could hold party discipline the way Republicans do, but they see themselves as the centrist party with a diversity of views rather than unity.
