I'm not sure if it's survival exactly, but it's comparatively bad outlook. They are making money now, but the profit rates are trending downward in some old reliable cash cows. If you look at say amazon, AWS is still very profitable but it's decreasing. The part that is divorced from reality is when they manically over hire (because pandemic investment and consumption is permanent I guess?) then try to layoff their way back to the way it was which incredibly costly both in money and culture.
