I would guess that for the most part safety is more of a function of attention and driving safely and predictably rather than relying on the superior handling to get out of scrapes. Many times people that prize handling of the car end up pushing the limits and driving dangerously aggressively accelerating and braking, following closely, aggressively lane swerving.
