Calling it a marketplace is a little stretch, I think. It’s a place to post ads but it doesn’t facilitate one of the essential functions of a marketplace – buying/selling. That seem to happen completely outside of the thing. So it’s more like a specialised Mastodon instance.
- black_puppydog 3y agoI go to my local farmers market nearly every day and I've never heard anyone object to the name just because we use regular cash & cards that are not centrally managed by FarmersMarket Corp. :)
- poisonborz 3y agoBut there you have easy cash, on the net you need _something_. There could be some integration - even just a paypal link option if the user wishes so - or at least a hint on the site on how to faciliate a payment.
- black_puppydog 3y agoI think it's written by a German originally. Not sure where you're from, but in Europe we're able to make wire transfers for free for a long time; I can just send you some money given a SEPA number, and this is increasingly available in real-time. Sure, it could be made easier. Flohmarkt is quite a young project though; the first time I heard about it was last summer at cccamp.
- poisonborz 3y agoI know, but users of such a federated project might prefer something more private than disclosing a real name/IBAN. In comparison, even Paypal (with a @username or mail address) is a bit more private.
- black_puppydog 3y agoVery fair point. :)
