Score editors seem to be uniquely difficult. I remember some discourse to that effect when Reaper snuck one in to a random release. As you probably know, notation is a complex written language that evolved over centuries. Trying to represent it in code in a way that translates between views (piano, MIDI, etc) is hard even for people with the resources and knowledge to make it happen. Reaper took a long time to get it right even with that.

I would put up with something primitive in a composition tool, because I’m going to export it to a dedicated score editor if I want a score. You can get pretty far with just a couple features. Like, a setting for how much tolerance you want (no 32nd notes here), an option to split voice by MIDI channel or something, and a button to switch between enharmonics. I don’t think a score view is critical, it’s just one of many missing features here and for some reason a lot of people are focusing on it.
