Amazon Lays Off 'Several Hundred' Staffers at Prime Video and MGM
- ChatGTP 3y agoAs a result, we’ve identified opportunities to reduce or discontinue investments in certain areas while increasing our investment and focus on content and product initiatives that deliver the most impact. As a result of these decisions, we will be eliminating several hundred roles across the Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios organization. Sounds like such non-sensical corporate drivel.
- StressedDev 3y agoNot really. All it is saying is "We found a better way to spend our money". Also, no matter what Amazon says, people are going to attack them because they are laying off (firing) people. No one likes layoffs.
- nothercastle 3y agoGet rid of the power ring, buy better shows
- racl101 3y agoThey paid way too much for that LOTR related show. Though, anecdotal, the people I know who watched it never finished the first season. Wonder how many more had the same experience.
- slyall 3y agoThey paid a lot for the rights. The Ring of Power can improve in the 2nd and later seasons (It had good bits but obviously could have been better) and the can also make other middle-earth based shows.
- FalconSensei 3y ago> The Ring of Power can improve in the 2nd and later seasons It's no use if people are not able to finish the 1st
- throwaway5959 3y agoIt was so fucking boring.
- ametrau 3y agoDo they say the “ringggs of power!” line?
- dsq 3y agoI'm a Tolkien purist, read all the works. I even had a beef with the Peter Jackson movies though I think he came from a place of love and the movies themselves were a pkeasure. I wanted to hate Rings, and in fact partially do for its significant digression from canon, but at some point I decidsd to accept it for what it was - a money play with some teasing points - and not waste time feeling bad about it.

- midasuni 3y agoDouble dip and you’re in shit. I’m not the only one who has cancelled when they started charging for adverts, and that impacts the larger Amazon ecosystem too as I now no longer instinctively buy everything from Amazon.
- beretguy 3y agoSame. Canceled prime, now buying much less stuff and if I need to buy something I wait until I have $35+ worth of stuff I want to buy to get free shipping. This really makes you think twice “do I really need to buy this?”.
- twoWhlsGud 3y agoI'd like to think that it's all due to them canceling The Peripheral, but it's probably more complicated than that...
