A building with an exoskeleton filled with water for fire resistance [video]
- camtarn 3y agoThe building was built on the proposed site of a London Tube station, and thus couldn't be built on a pile foundation as it would normally have been. Instead, all the weight is borne on four large pillars. To facilitate this, instead of pillars within the building, it has a metal exoskeleton distributing load to the large pillars. In order to stop this exoskeleton being damaged by fire and causing the building to collapse, the exoskeleton is made of hollow pipes which are filled with water, which carries away damaging heat.
