Ask HN: Why did they nerf the SEC thread?
It was at the top and now it's relegated to backwater pages.
- akerl_ 3y agoWhich thread? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38932228 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38932228 is on the 2nd page, and my suspicion is that it's there because of the radically higher number of comments than upvotes.
- moose_man 3y agoIt had way more upvotes before and it was a link to magazine article. They merged a bunch of threads togethers and in the process nerfed it. I think the article had well over 100 upvotes maybe 200 upvotes. Edit: I'm not sure how merging effects the ultimate upvote count.
- akerl_ 3y agoThe comments merge. Posts don't merge. The old post is still here: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=last24h&page=0&prefix=false&query=SEC&sort=byPopularity&type=story https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=last24h&page=0&prefix=fals...
- moose_man 3y agoI see but whatever is there now has 55 upvotes, but the thread that had the most comments had 319 upvotes (the one I consider nerfed).
- akerl_ 3y agoThere were 5 threads about this. One is a first party update from the SEC about the issue. One has no engagement. The other 3 were marked as dupes, and their comments were moved to the first party update. Nothing was "nerfed".
