Elon Musk explains decision to ban Hamas' X account: 'This was a tough call'
- nashashmi 3y agoFree speech is a highly strong word to elicit overreactions. This is not a free speech issue. This is a political-influence issue. Hamas's enemies are Elon's friends.
- lucubratory 3y agoHe's been purging dozens of accounts (that I've seen) that have nothing at all to do with Hamas, the only common thread is criticism of Israel.
- prepend 3y agoIsn’t this consistent with X’s rules that if you call for violence or crimes, you get banned. This isn’t a free speech issue. It’s a “no criminal speech” issue. So it seems like their rule is pretty clearly applied. And they have an exception for government. So I would expect that the Gaza government, that happens to be Hamas, posts criminal speech it would not be banned since that government is recognized by the UN.
- hulitu 3y ago> Isn’t this consistent with X’s rules that if you call for violence or crimes, you get banned I guess it depends on the caller. /s There is one thing i learned from Arnold Schwarzenegger: It does not matter how many people you kill, as long as you are the good guy.
- slimebot80 3y ago"Twitter serves as the de facto public town square" says Musk More like the square for village idiots. From what I can tell he hasn't done anything to make it a public square at all. Quite the opposite. It's easier than ever to be a fake propagandist or hardcore porn content creator, and they will even take your money for a silly badge, no questions asked.
