"But why would women choose a sector where the numbers indicate they aren’t welcome?" I've known many women that got into STEM and dropped out. Why? Most don't want to sit in front of a computer all day without social interaction. Many moved onto things like digital marketing, sales, and social media. I also really don't think women have been prevented from getting into higher positions of power and high-paying jobs for a long time. I've been consulting for two decades and worked with many companies in many different industries. I think I've reported to more women than men and there were many more women in upper-level management.
