For me to have a foreign spouse requires that person to be able to sit around a dinner table in my home country and not force the entire tables to speak English. These technologies allow me to get started on languages so fast, that nationality becomes less of a hassle when dating bilingually. Again, I think one needs to have a dinner table with non-english speaker to really appreciate this :)
