OAI and other AI companies are merely hiding behind fair use, which includes - The purpose and character of the use - Whether such use is of a commercial nature - The amount of reference material used - The effect on the work's value I'm very much pro-AI but I'm not willing to sacrifice the fourth estate or erase the value of intellectual labor so some guy can by another half-million dollar watch. I hope the NYTimes succeeds in their lawsuit, not because I want to hurt OAI or because I like the Times, but because I think the more we commoditize information, the dumber we get.
