Can a Big Village Full of Tiny Homes Ease Homelessness in Austin?
- foxyv 3y agoThe only solution that will help Austin, won't be a small exception to the zoning restrictions. It will need to be systemic. End parking minimums, R1 zoning, minimum offsets, etc... They all need to be addressed before housing shortages will end. Otherwise you are just spitting on the house fire and you will end up with half a million dollar tiny homes just like the Bay Area in California.
- syspec 3y agoUnfortunately that eventually turns into a ghetto in the original definition of the word.
- Dig1t 3y agoThere were extremely cheap homes available just outside of Austin just a few years ago, it didn’t really help with the homeless problem. I’m not homeless, but it seems to me that homeless people WANT to be in the heart of the city. If you offer them housing way outside the city center will they really want to spend time there? Or will they just go back downtown to be where the action is?
