I have the impression that people nowadays are completely infantilized. They will believe anything that supports their worldview and be heavily skeptical of whatever hurts their sensibilities. It's not even to the point of communication anymore, even with proper communication a large part of the population will behave like a 6 years old boy throwing a tantrum. Quick example, we had creationism before 2010, after 2010 something even worse(terraplanism) appeared.
