This issue might be big money, not big tech. In the 1980's, I recall the local Stop and Shop supermarket morphing into a "Super" Stop and Shop. It had an in-store florist. Apparently SS&S kept the prices below those of local, independent florists until they went out of business. Then SS&S raised the prices once they'd killed the independents.
