One year ago we flooded a forest [video]
- twic 3y agoI think this is this project: https://www.mossy.earth/projects/restoring-wetlands https://www.mossy.earth/projects/restoring-wetlands (not this sort of similar one https://www.mossy.earth/projects/restoring-floodplain-forests https://www.mossy.earth/projects/restoring-floodplain-forest... )

- dendrite9 3y agoInteresting to see the signs of the old river route in the satellite images. This kind of thing seems like a good idea as a way to add a buffer. It reminds me of this article about people smuggling beavers around Europe to do unsanctioned work to restore wetlands. I think it was posted here. https://www.codastory.com/waronscience/rewilding-beavers-conservation/ https://www.codastory.com/waronscience/rewilding-beavers-con...
- yread 3y agoThis is a similar project in hills of Ardennes https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/life/publicWebsite/project/LIFE03-NAT-B-000019/rehabilitation-of-peat-and-wet-habitats-on-the-saint-hubert-plateau https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/life/publicWebsite/project/LIFE... kinda counterintuitive to cut down trees and bring excavators, lawn mowers and heavy trucks to "restore nature" but hopefully those in charge know what they are doing and all the money, energy and CO2e will have a large payback
- bfeist 3y agoI can see the benefit of flooding and it’s great to see that the government is managing the forest, but there is almost no information in this video. It’s YouTube pocket lint.
