random HN commentators say things like this a lot because they don't understand how Google works or appreciate how big it is.
Go was written because *Rob Pike* had a problem - he didn't like C++ or Java or Python, and because he's Rob Pike, Google-as-a-company let him go and write a new language for a few years. Larry or Sergey or Sundar or Eric didn't go to Rob and ask him to do anything.
more or less, Go was funded (ie people were allowed to work on it, since that's about the only type of company money that matters in Google Engineering) because Rob Pike asked for it to be funded and Google liked having Rob Pike work there, and thought he'd almost certainly do something interesting.
because Rob Pike is an excellent engineer, Go turned out to be quite good in some ways and a good match for his initial problem - that writing Google prod apps required using C++ or Python or Java. and some other people in Google agreed, and started using Go, and some of those people had power and "encouraged" others to use it instead of Python.
