The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) gives parents control over what information websites can collect from their kids. [https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/privacy-security/childrens-privacy https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/privacy-security/child...]. It requires explicit consent from the parents by entering a credit card as a form of ID or a video chat where the web platform confirms the adult is the parent or guardian

It shouldn't be hard to add metadata about content type. I never quite understood why labeling initiatives never gained traction: * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_for_Internet_Content_Selection https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_for_Internet_Content_... * https://www.w3.org/PICS/ https://www.w3.org/PICS/ * https://www.w3.org/2007/powder/ https://www.w3.org/2007/powder/ Throw some <meta> tags in and browsers can parse: then have a password-protected "filter controls" area in settings (and perhaps a GPO for corporate environments).

  In theory that is right, but if non-technical lawmakers are being told by vendors how complex and expensive products ease that and allow monitoring it's convincing for many.
