It was[0] excruciatingly slow on 32 bit Linux too. Had to use an alternative lightweight browser most of the time, but some sites worked only with FF (eg banking and such). There was no alternative for these sites, as no Chromium or MS browser supported 32 bit Linux. There was plenty of lightweight browsers that would work with anything else than these (very few) sites though. I've read somewhere that FF will soon no longer support 32 bit at all (if it has not happened already)
[0] Probably still is. "Was" because the most used keys on the keyboard of my 32-bit 12 YO laptop went fubar around half a year ago, so I had to go 64 bit only for a while until I got a replacement KB. I've not used FF on the 32 bit machine since.
