Solar Power at All Hours: Inside the Space Solar Power Project
- JoeAltmaier 3y agoTo be useful the collectors have to withstand micrometeorites, thermal stress, solar flares. They have to station-keep indefinitely (a tether?). They must be steerable (aim at the appropriate ground targets) and tunable (transmit energy according to weather conditions). I'd imagine an array of largely independent panels. As they degrade they can be replaced. Not one big solid thing, but a sort of scattering of thousands of individual panels. But that's just my first guess.
