SF to LA and SF to Crescent City are both over 350 miles and you never leave CA.

  On the other hand: Santa Barbara to San Diego Bay Area to Sacramento Sacramento to Bakersfield and on to LA Portland to Seattle - or paralleling I-5 through Oregon. All reasonably dense.
