>>>Under Gay’s leadership, said Avi Loeb, a theoretical physicist in Harvard’s department of astronomy, the mandate of the administrative state of the university continued to expand and shift from serving faculty to monitoring them.
“The message was, don’t deviate from what they find to be appropriate,” Loeb said. “It became more of a police organization.”
>>A 2023 FIRE survey of 55,000 students at 254 colleges and universities found that just over a quarter of Harvard students reported they were comfortable publicly disagreeing with their professor on a controversial political topic; only roughly a third thought it was “very” or “extremely” clear the administration protects free speech on campus; and 30% said using violence to stop a campus speech is at least “rarely” acceptable.
Must be pretty bad if even the faculty at Harvard are complaining. And then her statements that jewish genocide advocacy did not necessarily trigger code of conduct exposing her clear enforcement bias unfortunately against a group that has been persecuted down through the ages. Policing speech and thought seems contrary to University ethos at least in US tradition.
