This is just a programmer musing about output checking. Testing is not merely output checking. Programmers mis-using the word "test" is one of the great forces against good testing. If you have any intention to test your products, programmers, then you must investigate your products. This does not mean setting up an "optimal" number of automated output checks any more than doing police work begins and ends with setting up CCTV cameras. Test is a verb, primarily, not a noun.
