Wikipedia says newspapers first appeared in the 17th century. So they managed as n industry, to be profitable enough to last around 400 years without the ability to target adverts to individual readers... but in the space of ~30 years they've somehow become inexplicably reliant on such a thing? Really?
It's honestly ridiculous to me that this article starts out with the assumption that website operators are owed the ability to target adverts at customers based on their browsing history. I've come across people before who seem to somehow think that the whole "targeted ad" concept is good, and beneficial.. every time I do it feels like talking to a cannibal about their favourite condiments.
