- simne 3y agoI don't like Pascal. But must admit, it shaped our modern world. As I remember, Pascal was just begin, next appeared Modula, Oberon, which was partially influence and partially just become main languages in some important niches (Modula-2/3 as I know, heavily used in military/air-space). RIP.
- jbotz 3y agoFamous quote... when asked by English speakers how to correctly pronounce his name, he supposedly said: "You can call me by name, which is Wirt, or you can call me by value, which is Worth."
- timbit42 3y agoThe article contradicts you: "Van Wijngaarden introduced Wirth on stage at the International Federation for Information Processing congress in 1965. He made a joke which became famous: Whereas Europeans generally pronounce his name the right way ('Nick-louse Veert'), Americans invariably mangle it into 'Nickel's Worth.' This is to say that Europeans call him by name, but Americans call him by value."
- hobotime 3y agoend.
