Long Covid causes changes in body that make exercise debilitating – study

- ljf 3y agoGood to have more proof of the changes that people have been talking about for some time. My wife has/had long covid - she's over her worst but as this says she finds exercise exhausting - which frustrates her immensely as she was working out 4 days a week before covid and the fittest she had ever been. But the bigger frustration was continually being told it was all in her head and the dismissal of her symptoms by some doctors (and by random online). Just hope this can lead to treatments and ways to mitigate damage in future long covid patients.
- perrygeo 3y agoMy observation: Most medical professionals were trained in the "exercise is a unequivocal good" mentality - If you can't do it, just work harder and the work will eventually pay off. The problem with CFS/ME/LongCovid is that exercise dosage needs to be controlled carefully. More like a drug where overdosing can cause debilitating side effects and a regression in primary symptoms. If doctors treated rx drug side effects this way ("ah you're fine, just keep taking the pills, pop as many as you can.") they'd be doing severe harm.

- namaria 3y ago> a nation Now the author just has to think of a reason why viruses would respect borders
- thenerdhead 3y agoAs someone with long covid, this is actually a brilliant concept for a book.

- reify 3y agoWhy is there no mention of whether or not the test subjects had been vaccinated. The experts have their say: Experts say they have evidence that biological changes are to blame, such as severe muscle damage, mitochondrial problems and the presence of microclots in the body. How do we know that the vaccine did not cause the same symptoms? Surely, only then we could put this thinking to bed and move on. For balance I would like to see the same research done on those who have had the vaccine. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-44432-3 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-44432-3
